South Carolina has quite a history of firsts -
First European settlement - 1526
First European contact with & enslavement of Native Americans - 1521
First state constitution signed - 1776
First naval battle of the Revolutionary War - 1776
First to secede from the Union - 1860
First shot fired in the Civil War - 1861
Let's work towards some new Kingdom firsts - Instead of slavery, we are called to freedom! Instead of secession, we are called to intercession! Instead of division, we are called to unity! Instead of rebellion, we are called to service and submission! Instead of isolation, we are called to community!
Our state motto is "Prepared in Mind and Deed" - Animis opibusque parati.
May God help us be prepared in mind and deed to not just think of our own individual visions or agendas, but to think corporately, work together, and lay down divisive things that are in all contexts of society. We will not secede
, but lead
in a new way. God has never needed a majority to bring change. If a few will pray and learn how to be effective on whatever mountain of culture you are called, we will see God bring breakthrough and change in our state.(Sources: Releasing the Prophetic Destiny of A Nation, Sheets & Pierce and South Carolina's Information Highway at http://www.sciway.net/facts/firsts.html)
