I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ
liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the
faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.Galatians 2:20
Do you have some type of idea what happened when you by faith repented of your sins and asked Jesus Christ to become Lord and Savior of your life? Obviously He washed your sins and declared you righteous but that isn't what I mean.
For you are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. Colossians 3:3. Wait a minute, I am dead? What ever are you talking about? As far as I know I seem to be breathing. So what are we to glean from Scripture? I think what has happened once we received Jesus Christ into our hearts is as follows: whatever we were prior to becoming saved, we are no longer...simply put. Remember from the Word of God, Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.2 Corinthians 5:17
You see unless you digest this terminology , "Born- Again", this whole concept of Good bye self may completely go right over your head. Born once of water, born twice spiritually from above!
It is important to understand that even though the old you is no longer, you and I will always have to battle the flesh and keep it from taking precedence over our new nature. The Bible puts it this way: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection. 1 Corinthians 9:27 "Mortify" therefore your members which are upon the earth;
fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and
covetousness, which is idolatry
Colossians 3:5 The old self didn't have a clue how to conquer these destructive patterns of lifestyle. The Christian lifestyle would not be a lifestyle at all apart from what took place once we were "Born- Again".
